Well, Laurent Brossoit will always be able to say he was perfect for the Alaska Aces.
The rookie goaltender, who has stopped all 40 shots he has faced as an Ace and bagged two straight shutouts, is no longer an Ace because the Calgary Flames, who had Brossoit under contract, traded him to the Edmonton Oilers as part of a four-player trade today.
Brossoit was scheduled to start for the Aces in Boise against the Idaho Steelheads tonight. That's obviously nixed. Mark Guggenberger, who backstopped a 3-0 win over Idaho on Wednesday with 21 saves, will be in net with an emergency backup goaltender on the bench.
Murray, reached by cellphone in Boise, said there is a possibility that Olivier Roy, the former Stockton Thunder goaltender who chased the Aces from the playoffs last season, could report to the Aces as soon as Saturday.
The Calgary-Edmonton deal was this: Calgary sent Brossoit and center Roman Horvak to Edmonton for defenseman Ladislav Smid and Roy.
Calgary and AHL Abbotsford are affiliated with the Aces.
Brossoit likely will report to Oklahoma City of the AHL, Murray said.
"We're getting a goalie back (Roy), so it's not like I have to go searching for one,'' Murray said.
Brossoit, meanwhile, goes to the Edmonton organization. He knows Edmonton. That's where he played his major-junior hockey in the Western Hockey League and backstopped the Oil Kings to the 2012 championship.
Brossoit earlier this week was named the ECHL's Goaltender of the Week after consecutive 16-save shutouts of the Bakersfield Condors.
