Prep hockey: Friday's results

East 4, Chugiak 4

A hat trick from East's Justin Beverlin wasn't enough to secure a Cook Inlet Conference hockey win against Chugiak on Friday at Ben Boeke Arena, where the teams battled through a scoreless overtime for a 4-4 tie.

The Mustangs built a 2-1 lead through one period on goals from Taylor Garner and Jonathon Banovetz, then led 4-3 on second-period goals from Garner and Andrew Beckett.

Craig Hayes scored East's first goal in the first period and Beverlin followed with two in the second period and one in the third. Hayes notched two assists and Kyle Johnson recorded one.

East goalie Matt Purvis stopped 39 shots, with 13 of his saves coming in overtime. Chugiak goalie Jack Straub made 17 saves, two in overtime.

Eagle River 2, Palmer 0

Connor Canterbury recorded a goal and an assist Friday to spark a 2-0 nonconference hockey win for Eagle River over Palmer at the McDonald Center.

Kenai 4, Service 2

Ross Hanson scored two of his team's three third-period goals Friday to rally Kenai past Service 4-2 at the Peninsula Ice Challenge hockey tournament at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.
