The UAA women's basketball team will take a seven-game winning streak into its season opener Saturday.
The Seawolves open with a matinee, a 4 p.m. nonconference game at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex against Western New Mexico.
UAA is coming off a 17-10 season, and seven of those wins came at the end of last season.
Second-year coach Ryan McCarthy is expected to start a lineup with just one senior, 5-foot-9 junior forward Kylie Burns.
The Seawolves have a young backcourt -- 5-7 Kiki Robertson is a freshman and 5-8 Jessica Madison is a sophomore -- but Robertson impressed last week with 14 points, seven assists and six rebounds in an exhibition loss to Division I Kansas State, and Madison earned Freshman of the Year honors last season in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
Burn, Madison and 5-8 junior Alli Madison were all regular starters last season. They are joined by a group of newcomers led by Robertson, 6-foot junior forward Keke Wright, a junior college All-American last season at Gillette (Wyo.) College, and 6-foot Alysha Devine, an all-state prep player last season at Wasilla.
