U.S. Rep. Don Young was given a clean bill of health after "minor chest discomfort" prompted diagnostic tests this weekend, a spokesman said Sunday.
Young was touring city projects in Wrangell on Nov. 7 when he felt chest pains, his spokesman Matt Shuckerow wrote in an e-mail Sunday.
Young was initially examined at the Wrangell Medical Center, where staff advised him to travel to Anchorage for further testing, his office said.
He was given an angiogram, which measures blood flow in arteries, and a cardiac stress test at the Alaska Heart Institute Saturday, according to Shuckerow. "Saturday's tests are standard procedure for someone who has had major heart surgery, which Congressman Young underwent in 1997," the e-mail said. .
In 1997, Young underwent double bypass surgery. In 1995 he had a procedure to clear a clogged artery.
Young, who is 80, has been Alaska's sole congressman for 40 years.
