Panel on artist residencies scheduled for Saturday

The Rasmuson Foundation and Anchorage Museum will present a panel discussion about professional artist residencies at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the museum, 625 C St. An artist residency program sponsored by the foundation has been placing Alaska artists in lower 48 venues and artists from outside Alaska with Alaska art presenters since 2003.

The panel, moderated by artist Clayton Campbell, will include Julie Decker, recently named the new director for the museum; Margot Knight of the Djerassi Resident Artists Program of Woodside, Calif.; Marek Ranis, a North Carolina media artist who is completing a two month residency at the museum; and Alaska poet and playwright Arlitia Jones.

Jones was recently named by the foundation as one of four Alaskans to participate in out of state residencies. She will be in residence at Knight's Djerassi program. The other Alaskans selected are multi-media artist Jimmy Riordan, who will be at the Zygote Press in Cleveland, Ohio; textile artist Maria Shell, who will go the the McColl Center for Visual Art in Charlotte, N.C.; and visual artist Gretchen Sagan, who will serve her residency at New Mexico's Santa Fe Art Institute.
