As the grim scene of devastation in the Philippines continues, Filipinos in Alaska have joined together to plan dinners, dances and karaoke nights to raise funds for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

Special events:
• The Alaska Federation of Filipino Americans will sponsor hour-long zumba classes Saturday at Dance Plus Fitness Studio, 549 W. International Airport Road, at 9:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. All donations will go to the General MacArthur-Manila Students and Residents Organization Inc.
• The FilAm Bayanihan Association of Unalaska will host a dinner benefit from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at Unalaska's Burma Road Chapel, located next to the Community Center, 37 S. Fifth St. It costs $12 for a plate of traditional Filipino cuisine. All proceeds will go to the victims of the typhoon.
• A Special Relief Fundraiser will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Catholic Social Hall in Bethel. All funds raised at the makeshift yard sale will be donated to relief efforts.
• Maharlika, Inc. is co-sponsoring "So You Think You Can Give" at the Alaska Dance Theater, 550 E. 33rd Ave., from 3 to 5:10 p.m. on Sunday. Local dance instructors will hold a series of 40-minute dance classes. Donations will go to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.
• Rev. Luz Flores of the Holy Spirit Center will host a vigil at 11:30 a.m. Monday for Haiyan victims at the Providence Alaska Medical Center chapel. All donations will go to Catholic Relief Services.
• Kubo Restaurant owners and Concerned Filipino Alaskans are hosting a Karaoke Fundraiser on Friday, Nov. 22, and Saturday, Nov. 23, at 6 p.m. at Kubo Restaurant, 3020 Minnesota Drive, Suite 13. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross.
• Filipino Community Inc. in Juneau will host a Thanksgiving dinner at Filipino Community Hall, 251 S. Franklin St., on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. It costs $15 per individual, $25 per couple and $5 for children under 12 years old. All money raised will go to typhoon relief efforts.
• Play N Trade, a Midtown gaming store, is hosting a video game tournament and silent auction from 2 to 9 p.m. Dec. 1. Proceeds will go to typhoon relief efforts. More information can be found at facebook.com/playntrade.alaska.
Ongoing:
• Non-perishable food items, clothing and blankets are being accepted at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, 3900 Wisconsin St.
• Cash and checks made out to Catholic Relief Services can also be dropped off at Kaladi Brothers Coffee locations at 6927 Brayton Drive and at New Sagaya Midtown, 3700 Old Seward Highway. New Sagaya will match donations up to $10,000.
