The Kenai River Brown Bears entered Saturday with a five-game losing streak.
Now, they have a six-game winless streak.
Hey, it's progress of a sort.
Kenai River lost 2-1 to Wichita Falls in a shootout in Soldotna. Nathan Colwell's power-play goal with 70 seconds left in regulation got the Brown Bears to extra time, and they lost 1-0 in the five-round shootout.
No fault of goalie Kris Oldham of Anchorage. He stopped 36 shots for Kenai in regulation and OT, and four of five shootout bids. Problem was Wichita Falls' Chase Monroe made 38 saves and snuffed all five Kenai River shooters.
Up north, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs got goals 2:40 apart from Chandler Mabry and Brett Gervais midway through the first period and made those strikes stand for a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Wilderness. Kevin Aldridge made 19 saves for the Ice Dogs.
