Letter: New paths to benefit Alaskans

We know that our oceans suffer rising acidification and pollution of all kinds — from trash to radiation. We will eventually pass the point of no return. We can stay "cleaner" in Alaska if we vigorously assert state and Native sovereignty over resource development on- and offshore and shed some population through attrition.

Our Permanent Fund is now big enough to subsidize state budgets with its earnings. Its dividend should be replaced by providing low-cost energy for all from our vast natural gas supplies. Every Alaskan would still benefit without cash in the form of the PFD in the equation, most of which is frittered away by Christmas.

Let's channel Norway, not Nigeria.
