The only suspenseful aspect of the last two basketball games for the UAA women was whether they would reach 100 points.
Led by a career-high 20 points from Alli Madison, the Seawolves made it to the century mark in Laie, Hawaii on Tuesday, topping BYU-Hawaii 100-49 in their second straight blowout victory over the Seasiders, who lost 99-53 to UAA last weekend.
UAA (3-0) rolled to an 18-0 lead in the first seven minutes and led 56-23 at halftime. During one stretch early in the first half, the Seawolves went on an 8-0 run without allowing the Seasiders beyond halfcourt.
“We had a number of steals back-to-back at the beginning of the game that kind of got us going,” UAA coach Ryan McCarthy said. “The positive thing about a game like this is you can go deep in the bench. The young players get a chance to get some college minutes underneath their belt.”
Five players scored in double figures for UAA. Freshman point guard Kiki Robertson just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 assists. Robertson also chipped in on defense with five of UAA’s 25 steals. Jessica Madison contributed 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting, Kylie Burns hit for 14 points, Emily Craft tossed in 11 off the bench and Keke Wright deposited 10 points to go with six rebounds and four steals. Freshman Alysha Devine scored nine points and hauled in nine rebounds.
Danna Lynn Hooper led the Seasiders (0-3) with 15 points.
The energy was high throughout the game, McCarthy said, with every player giving maximum effort and no player logging more than 26 minutes. The Seawolves defense helped create 39 turnovers and held the Seasiders to 25 percent shooting. UAA shot better than 47 percent, but struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 4 of 21 3-pointers.
“From the perimeter, we didn’t shoot very well,” McCarthy said. “We got a lot of buckets in transition.”
UAA will stay in Hawaii for one more game, taking on Chaminade on Thursday at 6 p.m.
