Chugiak fire victim identified

A woman who died in a cabin fire in Chugiak earlier this week has been identified by authorities as Zenia Kay Stepetin–Feenstra, 49.

Stepetin-Feenstra ran back into the burning building after initially getting out safely, witnesses told fire investigators. Her body was discovered inside several hours after firefighters began battling the blaze.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, said Megan Peters, a spokeswoman for the Alaska Department of Public Safety. Fire officials at the scene Monday said early indications pointed to a makeshift heater or stove fueled by kerosene as the source of the blaze.
