The Alaska Aces' lineup thinned even more today when defensemen James Martin and Kane Lafranchise were summoned by AHL Abbotsford, the Aces' affiliate.
Martin and Lafranchise both flew to Colorado with the Aces on Tuesday, grabbed their gear at the airport in Denver and caught a flight to Vancouver, said Aces coach Rob Murray.
With veteran Sean Curry (lower-body injury) and rookie Zach Davies (surgery, broken wrist) both out, the departures of Martin and Lafranchise suddenly leave the Aces with just five defensemen, one shy of the usual complement for games.
But Murray said former UAA defenseman Brad Gorham, an engineer who last season played 12 regular-season games for the Aces and six in the playoffs, flew out of Anchorage later than the team on Tuesday and will be in the lineup Wednesday night. Gorham had two assists last regular season, and was +5, and had two assists in the playoffs and earned an even rating.
Defenseman Corey Syvret, center Tim Coffman and winger Andy Taranto, all of whom missed the previous two games with injuries, made the road trip, according to Murray.
