Officer punched by prisoner at Anchorage jail, troopers say

Alaska State Troopers are investigating an incident at Anchorage jail where an inmate allegedly punched a correctional officer, authorities said.

About 1 p.m. Wednesday, a male inmate at the jail "became disruptive with medical staff," prompting correctional officers to come to the scene, according to trooper dispatch Friday.

"The inmate initially complied with verbal commands, but then spun around quickly" and punched an officer in the face, causing nose and mouth injuries, the report said.

Trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen declined to elaborate on the circumstances of the incident, which is under investigation. No charges have yet been filed, and the inmate's name has not been released.

The officer was treated and released at an Anchorage hospital.
