Ed Cassidy was nominated Monday by House Speaker John Boehner as the House of Representatives' chief administrative officer, starting next month.
Cassidy is now director of House operations in the speaker's office, and has been a top aide to Boehner for seven years.
The chief administrative officer directs offices and personnel that administer House operating budgets, financial management, procurement, payroll and benefits, information technology, cyber security, campus food services, office equipment and furnishings, and broadcast services.
"Ed Cassidy knows every nook and cranny of the people's House," Boehner said in a statement.
House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., was also pleased with the choice, citing his "strong commitment to public service."
Cassidy has had a long legislative career, holding senior positions with the House Rules and Ethics committees. During the George H. W. Bush administration, he was Deputy Director of the U.S. Minerals Management Service and the Interior Department's deputy chief of staff and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy, Management and Budget.
Cassidy studied economics and government at Fairfield University in his home state of Connecticut and at Georgetown University. He has a masters degree in public administration (MPA) from American University in Washington, DC. He and his wife, Laura, live in Alexandria, Virginia and have three daughters.
