Police said they have reopened the Seward Highway at McHugh Creek after a fatal accident closed the road for nearly four hours.

Anchorage police said they expect Seward Highway to reopen at Mile 112 in about 30 minutes.

A man was killed in a head-on collision on the Seward Highway in ice and fog Saturday morning, Anchorage police said.
The accident, at mile 112 just north of McHugh Creek, closed the highway in both directions. Police said they expected the road to reopen Saturday afternoon.
Police said the driver who was killed was sole occupant of a northbound Chevrolet Tracker when he apparently lost control and slid into the southbound lane. The Tracker collided with a white Chevy Silverado pickup heading south.
The Tracker driver was ejected from the SUV and was later pronounced dead by medics at the scene. He has not been identified pending notification of his family.
The Silverado driver, also the sole occupant of his vehicle, was taken by ambulance to a hospital. Police said his injuries were not life-threatening.
Police dispatch received numerous cell-phone calls about the accident starting at 10:25 a.m. Anchorage police and Anchorage Fire Department paramedics were sent to the scene, where they found the Tracker driver outside his vehicle at the crash site.
Southbound vehicles are being directed to turn around at the highway scales near Beluga Point. Northbound traffic is being sent back around mile 112, according to Police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro.
