UPDATED 10:30 AM:
The National Weather Service has canceled the freezing rain advisory for Anchorage and the Matanuska Valley.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Freezing rain is making for icy driving conditions - again - from Anchorage to the Matanuska Valley Tuesday.
The National Weather Service issued freezing rain advisories for the region through noon, with up to a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation expected. The forecast is for freezing drizzle in the morning, possibly mixing with flurries and a chance of freezing drizzle in the afternoon.
Schools are in session, but Valley Mover bus service between the Mat-Su and Anchorage is not operating.
A big change may be coming. According to the weather service, the recent pattern of above-average temperatures, drizzle and fog will come to an end by Wednesday. Temperatures will drop and a "substantial surge in precipitation" may be on the way.
"Details remain uncertain...but confidence is increasing that a region-wide snow event will occur late Friday through Saturday...possibly lasting into Sunday," the weather service said in a special statement posted Tuesday morning.
