UAA volleyball player Katelynn Zanders was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association's NCAA Division II All-America second team Wednesday, making her the third player in program history to earn All-America honors.
The 5-foot-9 South High graduate was third in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with 3.69 kills per set and 4.28 points per set. Dazzling volleyball fans with her athletic play, the sophomore outside hitter helped the Seawolves reach the first round of the NCAA tournament and finish with a 21-10 record. She posted a team-high 13 double-doubles and four times recorded at least 20 kills in a match. Her season high was 22 kills in a road victory over Western Washington, which was ranked seventh in the nation at the time.
Zanders, who was also a three-time GNAC Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week, joins Rhea Cardwell (2008) and Robyn Burton (2011) as second-team All-Americans from UAA. Calli Scott (2009), Cortney Lundberg (2010) and Jackie Matthisen (2011) were all honorable mention All-Americans.
