A Rose in Winter
The Alaska Chamber Singers present "A Rose in Winter," their Christmas concert, twice this weekend, at 8 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on Wisconsin Street and again at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Andrew Church in Eagle River. The program includes traditional carols and the virtuoso contemporary choral work at which the Chamber Singers excel. Among the pieces on the program is the transcendent "Mid-Winter Songs" by modern master Morten Lauridsen. General admission is $30 with tickets available in advance at centertix.net and at the door.
Arctic Sirens Cabaret
The Arctic Sirens promise "a hilarious way to ring in the holidays" at their next concert, 7 p.m. Friday at Tap Root, 3300 Spenard Rd. Singers include Meg Anderson, Cathy Garrick and the fabulous Derry Aires performing songs from their holiday CD and accompanied by the Kevin Barnett Trio. Admission is $15 and proceeds will benefit the Alaska Kidney Patients Association.
Paint/Draw/Sculpt
The International Gallery of Contemporary Art is featuring a group exhibition curated by Don Decker and IGCA executive director Michele Suchland. More than 35 contemporary Alaska artists are featured in all three of the main galleries. Meanwhile, in the Guest Room, Linda Lucky is showcasing a highly entertaining "art emporium" titled "The Lucky Zone." The gallery is located downtown at 427 D St.
Wilderness Reckoning
Great Northern Guns, 4433 Wright St., is the logical location for a book signing by Alaska writer Warren Troy. Troy's new book, "Wilderness Reckoning," continues his series of adventures based on Alaska homestead life. Meet the author and pick up a few stocking-stuffers for the firearms enthusiasts on your list from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.
