Championship matches are set for the Class 2A and Mixed 6 state volleyball tournaments at Dimond High, after a busy day of matches Friday.
Unalaska and Su Valley each put together five-set victories in the Class 2A semifinals, taking down Craig and Klawock, respectively. Defending Mixed 6 champion Unalakleet swept Noatak to reach the finals, where it will face Golovin, a four-set semifinal winner over Alak.
Unalaska dropped its first set to Craig, bounced back to win the next two before surrendering the fourth to Craig and forcing a deciding fifth set to 15 points. Unalaska escaped with a 16-25, 25-15, 25-23, 23-25, 15-13 win.
Su Valley's victory was equally tumultuous, with Su Valley taking the first two sets and Klawock coming back to take the next two. Su Valley prevailed 25-16, 25-13, 22-25, 14-25, 15-13.
Unalakleet is trying to complete an undefeated Mixed 6 season for the second straight year. It improved to 24-0 with two wins Friday, taking out Gustavus in the first round before sweeping Noatak.
Golovin blew by Akiachak with a first-round sweep Friday morning, but lost the first set to Alak in the semifinals, before storming to win the next three sets.
