Letter: Don't give rich uncle money

The recent announcement from the Department of Revenue that the state will soon face a $2 billion deficit should be no surprise. In fact, it was predictable.

Imagine you had lots of bills to pay but you decided instead to give a huge chunk of your income to your rich uncle. And the rich uncle is laughing all the way to the bank. This giveaway to the oil industry is a disgusting example of corruption of the worst kind. Alaskans are not fooled by slick ad campaigns trying to convince us that the rich uncle needs more piles of cash.

When given the opportunity, Alaskans will reject this foolish policy. We shall do so knowing the power is vested in the people. Our elected officials have some explaining to do. When politicians make a mistake, it is up to them to correct it.
