Update 5 p.m. Saturday:
The snowfall in the Anchorage area is expected to continue through the evening, with an extra 4 inches to 7 inches of accumulation, the National Weather Service said late Saturday afternoon.
Total snowfall for the storm, which began Friday, is expected to be around 10 inches to 15 inches, the weather service said. The winter weather advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday.
Driving has been difficult around the area, with blowing snow and poor visibility.
The snow will be moderate to heavy at times and will continue through Saturday night before becoming lighter after midnight and continuing through early Sunday morning, the weather service said.
A winter weather advisory also is in effect for the western Kenai Peninsula, with an additional 4 inches to 7 inches of snow expected north of Clam Gulch, the weather service said just before 4 p.m.
Update, 7 a.m. Saturday:
It's not over yet. Another 4 inches to 10 inches of snow is forecast for the Anchorage area overnight.
The National Weather Service has extended the winter weather advisory for the city to 6 a.m. Sunday, with a total storm accumulation of 8 inches to 16 inches.
"Numerous snow showers this morning will give way to steady snow by late afternoon," the weather service said. "Snow...moderate to heavy at times...will continue through the evening hours before becoming lighter around midnight and continuing through early Sunday morning."
An additional 5 inches to 9 inches of snow is forecast for the western Kenai Peninsula, from Clam Gulch north.

A one, two punch of winter weather is expected to drop between 5 and 9 inches of snow on Anchorage overnight Friday and continue through Sunday morning.
The National Weather Service has issued an advisory for the Anchorage area from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Sunday. It doesn't include the Matanuska and Susitna valleys.
The weather service, in its forecast Friday evening, said snow will develop as a low-pressure system settles in. The storm is expected to deposit 2-4 inches of snow by Saturday morning. Wind gusts of up to 25 mph also were expected.
The snow will taper off Saturday morning, ending or becoming light through the day as a second low-pressure front moves in. Then, steady snow will fall Saturday night into Sunday, the forecast said.
The precipitation should end sometime Sunday evening. Light winds were expected to accompany the second front.
Temperatures should stay between single digits and the low 20s throughout the weekend.
A winter advisory is also in effect for the western Kenai Peninsula from 9 a.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, with 8 to 12 inches of snow expected.
A small craft marine advisory is in effect for Kodiak Island.
Only 2 inches of snow is forecast for the Mat Valley and 3 inches in the Su Valley.
