Bera barely outruns women

The men weren't just outnumbered by women at Saturday's Jingle Bell Walk/Run for Arthritis. All but one of them got chicked.

Leslie Varys of Wasilla placed second overall and was the top woman at the five-kilometer race on snowy trails around UAA. Her time of 22 minutes, 36.5 seconds was 2.1 seconds off Jacob Bera's winning time of 22:34.4.

Another woman, Kristen Maves, placed fifth overall in the field of 358 finishers, 239 of them women.
