Gagnon wins another slalom at Alyeska

UAA’s Cedrik Gagnon won a men’s slalom race for the second straight day Saturday in the Alaska Best Water December FIS series at Alyeska Ski Resort, where Madeline Johnson, of Lake Tahoe, won the women’s event and snow fell all day long. 

Gagnon posted the fastest times in both runs, combining them for a winning time of 1 minute, 43.36 seconds. UAA skiiers took the next two spots as well, with Niko Harmanen in second at 1:44.48 and Curtis McKillop at 1:44.98 in third. 

Johnson won the women’s race by more than two seconds, finishing two runs in 1:57.14. Carrabassett Valley’s Jennifer Rowland was second at 1:59.94. Nicole Ritchie, a Scottish skier who trains at Killington Mountain School in Vermont, was third at 2:00.61. 

Saturday’s races were the last in a series of four.
