Letter: Give high schoolers more sleep

Most students would agree with me when I say that we need to start school an hour later. Many students get up at 5:30 in the morning to shower and get ready to leave at 6:50. Getting up that early after homework and after-school commitments makes students not focus well in school. Many students are up until 10-11 p.m. trying to finish homework after their sports/clubs and then getting up at 5:30 a.m. This does not give us as much sleep as we need to perform at our best in school.

It is scientifically proven that teenagers need 8-9 hours of good sleep to be alert and energized for the day. So high school should start at 8:30 a.m., rather than 7:30. For the betterment of teenagers, the high school start time should be changed.
