Anchorage man sentenced to 42 years for sexual abuse of a child

An Anchorage man has been sentenced to 42 years in prison for sexually abusing a 7-year-old.

On Dec. 12, Anchorage Superior Court Judge Larry Card sentenced Jared Kowalski, 33, to prison time plus 15 years of probation after his release.

Kowalski was convicted on four felony sexual abuse charges after a two-week trial that ended in August.

The jury acquitted him of one count of first degree sexual abuse of a minor.

Kowalski will also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Prosecutors have said that Kowalski abused a young relative, who eventually reported the abuse to a friend. The friend in turn told family members and authorities.
