Bad weather disrupts the first round of the Lady T-Bird Classic

Mother Nature picked up an opening-round victory at the Lady T-Bird Classic on Thursday — bad weather kept the Kodiak Bears at home, forcing the postponement of Kodiak's game with Eagle River.

That means action will resume Friday with five games instead of four at East High. Kodiak and Eagle River will play at 8 a.m. to decide which team goes into the evening's championship bracket and which drops into the afternoon's consolation bracket.

Palmer, Seward and East locked up semifinal spots by winning their first-round games. Palmer downed Nome 60-38, Seward stopped Service 38-26 and East trounced Houston 63-49.

In Palmer's win, Leya DePriest racked up 26 points and 11 rebounds and Kalei DePriest pitched in 10 points and eight rebounds for the Moose, who used a 22-8 second quarter to gain command.

Nome was kayoed by

35 turnovers, many of them coming on steals by Carly Venske, who had eight, and Molly Osiensky, who had seven. Adalaine Ahmasuk led the Nanooks with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Laura Kromrey's 17 points and 12 rebounds led Seward past Service in a slow-paced game that produced seven points in the first quarter and 24 in the first two quarters. The game was tied 12-12 at halftime.

Ashley VonBostel chipped in 10 points and Kiana Clemens grabbed 12 rebounds for the Seahawks. Service got six points apiece from Amanda Allard and Tatiyanna Venable.

14 rebounds in the winner over Houston. Dajah Motuga (11 points), Lorna Lei Suaava (10 points) and Rolanda Scaife (10 points) joined her in double figures.

Houston was led by Savannah Wells, who scored

23 points, 10 of them at the foul line.
