Prep hockey: Results from Thursday's game

South 5, West 3

The South Wolverines gained sole possession of second place in the Cook Inlet Conference on Thursday by turning back West 5-3 in a boys hockey game at Ben Boeke Arena.

Coming into the game, the teams were tied for second place with 6-1 records.

West scored twice in the final 2:09, but it wasn't enough. South led 4-1 after two periods and 5-1 midway through the third after Danny Widmar scored his second goal of the game.

Cameron Klatt scored a goal and an assist, and Max Osbourne and Josh Smith each scored one goal.

Ilya Turchaninov scored twice for West, with his last strike coming with 20 seconds left. Garen Teders also scored for the Eagles, who fired only 13 shots at South goalkeeper Davis Kitagawa. West goaltender Joe Chekan stopped 25 shots.

Chugiak 15, Bartlett 1

Kris Tomazevic scored four goals, Sam Hanson scored three and John Hammer added two Thursday in Chugiak's 15-1 hammering of Bartlett in a CIC game at the McDonald Center.

Chugiak, which unleashed 56 shots, led 2-0 after one period and 7-0 after two. Tomazevic and Hanson each scored once while the Mustangs were shorthanded.

Bartlett's goal came from Joel Johnson, who scored with less than a minute left.
