Wine of the week: Gift giving ideas

I saw a cute one the other day: "If you can't figure out what to get me, you must not know where to buy wine." Wine makes a wonderful gift -- it comes in different colors and can be sweet, frothy or dry. But let's make it simple this year. Here's your list. Sweet: Moscato d'Asti is so in right now and the 2012 Saracco is super lush. Costs about $19. Dry white: Michael David Chardonnay 68/32 barrel to stainless fermentation creates cream and texture. Costs about $18. Dry Red: 2012 Meiome Pinot Noir is super juicy and fat on the palate. The huge blue and black fruits are delightful. Costs about $25. Sparkler: Scharfenberger Brut is the best deal right now. It's bright and focused with great foam and bubble -- true, affordable luxury. Costs about $18. See? Gift giving made easy. Cheers and merry Christmas!
