Utah's Hogg suspended indefinitely for ruining Connolly's face

Doyle Woody,Adn Staff

Kris Hogg of the Utah Grizzlies has been fined the usual "undisclosed amount'' and suspended indefinitely -- pending a hearing with ECHL officials -- for the stick he delivered to the face of Alaska Aces winger Brendan Connolly in Saturday's 5-3 Aces win at Sullivan Arena.

As Connolly shot the puck on a rush into Utah's zone, Hogg slashed his stick horizontally at Connolly and struck him directly in the mouth, leaving him a bloody mess. Hogg received four minutes for high-sticking -- thinking about it later, wondered why it wasn't a major penalty of some sort, in that it wasn't just the usual high-stick that drew blood -- we guess because there's no penalty for "ruining an opponent's face.''

In any event, seems like Hogg should get, at minimum, a couple of games for his action.

Stay tuned.
