An 84-year-old Homer man was cited for reckless driving after he drove in the wrong lane of the Seward Highway, nearly causing a head-on collision, because he didn't have his glasses on, troopers said.
On Dec. 23 troopers pulled George Eischens of Homer over after he was seen driving in the wrong lane around Mile 98, the Alaska State Troopers wrote in an online dispatch.
A trooper SUV and another vehicle had to swerve to avoid a head-on collision with the Toyota SUV Eischens was driving, according to the dispatch.
"Investigation revealed the driver ... was driving without his glasses and couldn't see the road or tell he was in the wrong lane."
He was cited for reckless driving and driving in violation of license limitation.
A family member from Anchorage came to the scene to take control of the vehicle, troopers said.
