Mayor's chief of staff to oversee Anchorage power utility during GM search

Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan's chief of staff will oversee the city's electrical utility until a permanent general manager is found, Sullivan said Thursday.

Dan Kendall, who worked for more than three decades at the natural gas company Enstar, replaces Jim Posey, the former general manager for Municipal Light and Power who retired at the end of 2013.

Sullivan said that Kendall's experience at Enstar qualifies him to run Municipal Light and Power while the city looks for a permanent replacement for Posey.

That's because Municipal Light and Power owns a share in a natural gas field along Cook Inlet's western shoreline, Sullivan said.

The city has received "a number" of applications for the general manager job, "but not the right one yet," Sullivan said.

The position pays between $100,000 and $125,000 annually, according to the city's posting, which is available here.
