Letter: Chemical-laden trees won't burn

I am all for keeping Christmas trees out of the landfill. However I am concerned about the compost made from the store-bought trees being used in our gardens. The trees are now so heavily coated with fire protectants that they just won't burn at our yearly Christmas tree burn parties no matter how hot the fire. It makes me think that perhaps by using the compost we are poisoning the earth and ourselves.
