Letter: Fireworks were lit with vigor

So, shooting off fireworks in Anchorage was illegal this New Year’s?

The noise, volume and duration of fireworks this New Year’s Eve was far more disruptive than the previous two years when shooting off fireworks in Anchorage was legal. The constant bang and boom of fireworks was continuous from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Hopeful that the noise had abated by 1 a.m., I was startled by random gunshots followed by loud firecrackers from 1 to 2 a.m. in unpredictable intervals. Even my mellow dog was beside herself and my dog sensitive to noise was totally traumatized. Perhaps those desiring to shoot fireworks could be considerate of people and pets that are ultra sensitive to noise and limit the time they shoot off fireworks to the half-hour before and after midnight, thus limiting the time for others to endure noise trauma. Is it really necessary to discharge your firearms to ring in the New Year?
