Entries are open for the annual Mount Marathon race, which is as hard to gain entry to as it is to complete. There are always more runners than there are available spots in the grueling mountain race in Seward.
Runners hoping to compete in the 87th annual race up and down 3,022-foot Mount Marathon must submit online applications at mmr.seward.com by March 31.
The Fourth of July race is limited to 400 men, 400 women and 200 juniors. Veterans and 2013 finishers have priority. Any remaining slots will be filled through a lottery system, with results announced in mid-April.
