Blowouts marked the opening night of the Cook Inlet Conference girls basketball season, with the four winners triumphing by a combined 160 points.

Two of the games were decided by reasonably mellow margins -- East beat South 61-51 and Chugiak defeated Bartlett 47-30.

The big disparities came in the other two games. Four-time defending CIC champion Dimond steamrolled Eagle River by 88 points, 96-8, and West crushed Service 63-14.

East 61, South 51

Taria Page poured in 21 points and Tennae Voliva blocked three shots down the stretch to lift East to a 61-51 home-court win over South.

Lorna Suaava added 12 points for the Thunderbirds, who had to hold off a late charge by South.

Sadie Hodgson racked up 22 points and Zulai Coles scored 17 for South.

Chugiak 47, Bartlett 30

Chugiak opened the Cook Inlet Conference girls basketball season Monday night with a victory over Bartlett at Chugiak.

Nicole Pinckney tallied 16 points and Brandy Bookout 12 for the Mustangs in the 47-30 triumph.

Bartlett's Nadine Fraker was the game's leading scorer with 21 points.

West 63, Service 14

Chanel Bookert drained five 3-pointers to fuel West's 63-14 CIC win over host Service.

Bookert poured in a game-high 26 points, including 15 in the second quarter that carried the Eagles to a 40-9 halftime lead.

Theyoung Puoy added 14 points and Chamira Cockerham 11 for West.

Rebecca Hodson's five points and Courtney LaPointe's four topped the Cougars.

Dimond 96, Eagle River 8

Rohyn Huss pumped in 35 points and three other Lynx single-handedly outscored Eagle River in Dimond's 96-8 homecourt win.

The defending region champs got 20 points and eight assists from Tara Thompson, 14 points and nine rebounds from Nikki Forrey and nine points and rebounds from Kaitlyn Allen. Huss tallied a team-high nine steals.
