Detectives talk to person of interest in suspicious Eagle River death

Anchorage police say a man described as a "person of interest" in connection to a suspicious death has contacted detectives.

The man, 29-year-old Brett William Hopper, is no longer sought for questioning, police spokeswoman Anita Shell said Wednesday. Shell said Tuesday that detectives wanted to talk to Hopper in regards to the December death of 32-year-old Andrew Conn, of Eagle River, but they had been unable to find Hopper.

Hopper, an acquaintance of Conn's, made contact with police Wednesday, Shell said.

Police initially called Conn's death a homicide. But after receiving autopsy results, the case was considered an investigation of a suspicious death, Shell said.

The cause of Conn's death has not been released.

Hopper was not a suspect in the case, Shell said, but a person detectives believed might know additional details.
