Fairbanks man charged after crashing stolen truck, causing life-threatening injuries

A 30-year-old Fairbanks man was arraigned Friday afternoon for driving in a "reckless manner" and sending another person to the hospital with life-threatening injuries on Thursday afternoon, according to an Alaska State Troopers dispatch report.

Witnesses told troopers around 4 p.m. Thursday Alan Lynott ran a red light, in a stolen Chevy pick-up truck, at the Mitchell Expressway and University Avenue, that allegedly caused a three car accident. According to trooper spokesperson Megan Peters, the truck had been reported stolen earlier that day.

When troopers arrived at the scene, they found the driver of a white Ford Explorer, 36-year-old Wyatt Hurlbut, with life-threatening injuries. Based on his condition, responding medical personnel initially thought he may have to be transported from Fairbanks Memorial Hospital to Anchorage for further treatment, but Peters said they were able to stabilize his condition and keep him at the Fairbanks hospital.

Troopers also attempted to transport Lynott to the hospital, but Peters said he bailed out of the ambulance and added that she was unsure if he fled at the hospital or en route, but troopers were able to quickly apprehend him.

Kelly Dobinson, 31, was in gray 2000 Honda Odyssey, which was the third vehicle in the crash, but reported no injuries.

Lynott was charged with assault, vehicle theft, driving with a revoked license, providing false information, violating conditions of his release and an outstanding felony no-bail warrant for failure to comply with conditions of release. He is being held without bail.

Peters said that toxicology tests are being done to determine whether Lynott was under the influence.
