Troopers: Two hospitalized after stabbing outside Chickaloon lodge

A man was flown to Anchorage with life-threatening injuries Sunday night after a stabbing outside of a Chickaloon lodge, Alaska State Troopers said. Another man involved in the fight was also taken to the hospital, troopers said.

Troopers said they received report shortly before 6 p.m. of an injured man near the Sutton General Store at Mile 61 on the Glenn Highway, about 15 miles from where a stabbing occurred earlier that evening.

The man and an adult male family member had fought in the parking lot at King Mountain Lodge, around Mile 76, according to a trooper investigation. One of the men stabbed the other before they both fled the scene, troopers said.

A LifeMed helicopter responded to the general store and took the man to an Anchorage hospital, troopers said. The man was still receiving treatment in the intensive care unit Monday afternoon, said Megan Peters, troopers spokeswoman.

Troopers were also contacted about the second man who had "significant injuries," Peters said He was found in a car near Mile 58 and taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center, she said.

Peters said the stabbing is considered a domestic violence incident. Investigation into its cause is ongoing and charges have yet to be filed.
