The sole occupant escaped without injury but a dog died in a fire that destroyed a mobile home near Fairbanks Monday night.

The fire was reported just after 8 p.m. on Jade Street, a rural, wooded area on the west side the Steese Highway, according to Scott Learned, deputy chief of the Steese Volunteer Fire Department. Four units from that department responded, along with units from Fort Wainwright, Chena Goldstream Fire and Rescue and the University of Alaska Fairbanks Fire Department that helped provide water.

Arriving firefighters saw flames shooting through the roof, Learned said. The structure, a mobile home with a framed attachment, was a total loss.

The one occupant of the mobile home got out without injury, he said. The fire remains under investigation. Crews were on scene until about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.
