No injuries or spill after car crashes into gas pumps

A speeding car crashed into the Shell gas station in Fairview, sending two pumps flying and knocking over a metal pole, a manager working at the station said Wednesday morning.

No one was hurt and an automatic shutoff valve prevented any gas or diesel from spilling, manager Mag Choi said. She said she didn't see the car coming but heard a boom when the vehicle hit the pumps. There appeared to be one person, a man, in the car, she said. No one else was at the station at the time.

"Good thing nobody was parking there," Choi said.

Anchorage police responded just after 3:30 a.m. Wednesday to a report that a car hit a building at 15th Avenue and Ingra Street, a dispatcher said. The name of the driver and whether he was cited weren't immediately available.
