A 29-year-old Soldotna man died Wednesday when he was ejected from a commercial truck he was driving near Homer, said an Alaska State Troopers report.
The public safety dispatch in Soldotna responded to a call of a single-vehicle crash near Mile 9.5 of East End Road shortly before 10:30 a.m., troopers said.
Trevor Cunningham had been driving inbound to Homer when the vacuum truck, carrying drilling mud, flipped, said Megan Peters, troopers spokeswoman.
The truck was completely off the road and the tank had separated from the frame, Peters said.
She did not know how far Cunningham's body was found from the truck. He was taken to Homer hospital, where he was pronounced dead, troopers said.
The truck was operated by AIMM Technologies, Inc., a Texas-based service company with an office in Kenai, said Jams Charo, the company's environmental health and safety director.
AIMM Technologies, Inc. is a contractor for the Australia-based Buccaneer Energy, an oil and gas company working on a drilling project, called West Eagle, outside of Homer, said Richard Loomis, a Buccaneer spokesman.
Loomis said Cunningham was leaving West Eagle and driving to a disposal site, but he didn't know the location of that destination. He said the company is at the beginning of the drilling, so the drilling mud is mostly water.
Troopers said the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation was notified.
Steven Russel, environmental program manager with the DEC, said the drilling mud affected a 20-foot by 30-foot patch of grass. He said DEC will be working with the two companies to determine the mud's contents.
Investigation into the wreck is ongoing, trooper said.
