Police: Spenard Road death being investigated as a homicide

Update Friday, 8:40 a.m.:

An autopsy will be conducted Friday on the man found dead inside a vehicle Thursday in a Spenard parking lot, said a police spokeswoman.

Police said they are investigating the death as a homicide.

"Police are in the process of positively identifying the male victim and will then notify next-of-kin," said an email from Jennifer Castro, police spokeswoman.

The death of a man found in a vehicle in Spenard on Thursday afternoon is being investigated as a homicide, police said.

About 3:24 p.m. a caller reported a body in a vehicle in the parking lot on the 2600 block of Spenard Road, said Jennifer Castro, Anchorage police spokeswoman. The lot serves popular businesses like Bosco's comics and Organic Oasis and Momma O's restaurants.

Police and paramedics responded and closed down the parking lot while conducting the investigation. The man was declared dead at the scene, Castro said.

No further information was immediately available.
