A 7-year-old boy was among five people hospitalized after a two-vehicle accident on Trunk Road on Thursday night outside Palmer, Alaska State Troopers said.
The boy was a passenger in a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am driven by a relative, 50-year-old Houston resident David Bellmay, troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said. Another adult was also in the car, which was going south on Trunk near Forestwood Drive when the accident occurred.
Bellmay crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a 1994 Toyota 4Runner carrying two adults, troopers said. Trunk in that area is a broad, two-lane road widened last year, with a 55-mph speed limit.
The first report of the accident came at 8:18 p.m.
LifeMed Alaska flew the boy to Providence Alaska Medical Center, troopers said. Ambulances took Bellmay and the three other adults to Mat-Su Regional Hospital. Both vehicles were totaled in the collision.
The boy was in stable condition Friday morning, Peters said. One of the adults was in critical condition, one was in critical but stable condition, and two were in stable condition.
Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, she said.
