Injured snowmachiner flown out of Hatcher Pass

A 30-year-old snowmachine rider was injured in a collision Saturday and had to be flown out of Hatcher Pass, officials said.

The backcountry crash near Mint Glacier was reported around noon, according to a spokeswoman for LifeMed Alaska. She could not detail the circumstances or extent of the unidentified man's injuries.

The helicopter rescue took about an hour with the victim having to be snowmachined and carried at points. The patient was taken to an Anchorage hospital and was in stable condition, according to LifeMed. The Palmer ambulance and fire department also responded. No further information was available.
