Alyeska says it will open Thursday

Alyeska Ski Resort will be back in business Thursday after a three-day closure due to avalanche risk.

The Girdwood ski area will open at 1 p.m. and close at 9 p.m. Night skiing is scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

All lifts are scheduled to be open.

Alyeska was closed Monday through Wednesday following an extended stretch of unseasonably warm weather that affected snowpack stability, resort officials said.

Snowmaking on the lower mountain will resume as soon as its gets cold enough to run the machines, the resort said. That will help restore snow pack lost to high temperatures.
