Service nips Dimond, plus other boys hoops from Wednesday

Service and Dimond put on a show Wednesday night at Service, with Service pulling out a 58-56 victory in a thrilling, back-and-forth Cook Inlet Conference basketball game.

Reece Robinson poured in 26 points on near-perfect shooting for the Cougars. He hit all four of his 3-pointers, was 9 of 10 from the field and 4 of 5 from the free throw line.

The teams traded the lead 12 times and were tied five times. Service grabbed an early 13-4 lead, but Dimond narrowed the gap to trail by five, 17-12, after one quarter. Service led 28-25 at the half and 43-41 after three quarters.

Ihro Raguindin delivered 11 points and four steals for the Cougars, who shot 51.2 percent for the game and commited just 11 turnovers.

Dimond shot 50.0 percent and gave away the ball 12 times.

Austin Osborn pumped in 20 points and Carlos Diaz racked up 12 points, 10 rebounds and four steals for Dimond, which held a slim 27-24 rebound edge. Muhamad Cole pitched in 10 points.

In a CIC game at Bartlett, the host Golden Bears trounced South 64-32.

 

West 67, Eagle River 49

West remained unbeaten in CIC play Wednesday with a 67-49 win over Eagle River.

Dez Gross gave the Eagles a boost with 11 points and nine rebounds and Don McMorris contributed 10 points, four steals and four assists. Brandon Huffman joined them in double figures with 12 points.

Carlos Melvin and Alani Collins each scored nine for Eagle River.

 

East 68, Chugiak 45

Four players landed in double figures Wednesday to spark East’s 68-45 triumph over Chugiak.

Desmond Johnson turned in a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, an effort that also included six assists for the T-birds. Eudy Gomez added 14 points, eight rebounds and five steals, and Brayton Keith and Edwin Dorschind each added 11 points.

The game’s top scorer was Jared Phearson, who tossed in 18 points for Chugiak. Matt Oldenkamp added 14 for the Wolves.
