Anders sets UAA pentathlon record

UAA’s All-American pentathlete Karolin Anders set one school record and tied another Friday with a second-place performance at the Ed Jacoby Invitational indoor track and field meet in Nampa, Idaho.

Anders, who is from Berlin, Germany, recorded personal bests in three of the five events to finish with a school-record 3,774 points. Her high jump mark of 5 feet, 7.75 inches ties the school indoor record set by Anders last season.

Both the pentathlon score and the high jump mark meet the provisional marks for the NCAA Division II championships, meaning it’s a good chance Anders will qualify for the meet in those events.

Anders set PRs in the 60-meter hurdles (9.24 seconds) and 800 (2:24.22). She finished second to Chula Vista’s Shana Woods, who amassed 4,100 points.

UAA got great showings from its medley distance relay teams. The men — Isaac Kangogo, Adam Commandeur, Ethan Hewitt and Micah Chelimo — won in 10:02.54, and the women — Susan Bick, Haleigh Lloyd, Jessica Pahkala and Joyce Kipchumba — placed second in 12:18.38.
