Western Washington steamrolls UAA men

The UAA men's basketball team ran out of road-trip magic Saturday night in Bellingham, Wash.

Western Washington hit 63 percent of its shots and killed UAA on the boards to roll to a 99-76 Great Northwest Athletic Conference win, snapping the Seawolves' three-game winning streak. All three of those wins came on the road, the last two of them by a single point.

The Vikings put on a show in the game, which aired live on Root Sports. They made 39 of 62 shots, including 16 of 27 from 3-point range.

Richard Woodworth proved particularly deadly, netting six of his seven 3-point attempts for 24 points. He shared scoring honors with teammate Jeffrey Parker, who was 9 of 15 from the field with five 3-pointers.

UAA produced four double-figure scorers and shot a decent 41 percent from the field, but the Western Washington shooters were too hot to handle. So were its big men.

Austin Bragg, a 6-foot-9 senior center, racked up a 13-rebound, 12-point, 10-assist triple-double, and Anye Turner, a 6-7 junior forward, grabbed 11 rebounds for the Vikings, who outrebounded the Seawolves 40-17. UAA collected only five offensive rebounds and Teancum Stafford furnished one, about eight below his average.

The win keeps Western Washington (15-4, 9-2) in the GNAC lead, which it shares with Seattle Pacific.

UAF is two games back with a 7-4 mark, and Central Washington is fourth at 6-5. Fifth-place UAA is the only other team in the 10-team league with a winning record.

The game ended the longest road swing of the season for the Seawolves, who come home to an immediate challenge -- nationally ranked Seattle Pacific, which comes to town for a Thursday game.

Travis Thompson's 16 points led the Seawolves (13-9 overall, 6-5 GNAC). Brian McGill added 15, Kyle Fossman 14 and Stafford 12.

UAA trailed the entire game, including 45-32 at the half.
