A group of individuals previously involved with Out North is attempting to bring the shuttered art venue back to life. The site of art shows, community workshops, alternative theater and dance productions, Out North closed its doors suddenly last summer due to financial difficulties.
Artist Ruby Jones said a board formed of herself, Shelly Wozniak, Ryan Anderson, Cindy Drinkwater and Indra Arriaga, would hold a public meeting to explain their plans for the building and to solicit ideas from the community.
"Our main goals are to show the public that Out North is alive and engaged and in the process of rebuilding," Jones told the Daily News. "We also are opening our doors to rentals and actively seeking renters, volunteers, donors and committee members."
The doors will open at 5 p.m. Saturday. The board's presentation will start at 6 p.m. It will be followed by a screening of "The Wisdom Tree," the first announced event at the facility since an art show that followed on the heels of the official closing.
The independently produced film is described as a "sci-fi mystical journey." It stars Sheetal Sheth, Patrick Alparone and Eric Holter. Admission to the film is $8. The screening starts at 7:30 p.m. and will be followed by a discussion with cast and crew.
Out North's building is located at 3800 DeBarr Rd.
