Stanley Cup in Anchorage: Where to see it Friday-Saturday, and names to look for

WANNA VISIT STANLEY?

The NHL's Stanley Cup, the chalice so coveted it has reduced the hardest men to tears, is in town Friday and Saturday as part of the ECHL's Hockey Heritage weekend.

Note also that several items from the Hockey Hall of Fame, such as the Hart Trophy, Norris Trophy and Calder Trophy will be on display at Sullivan Arena during the Aces-Stockton series this week.

Here's where you can check out the Stanley Cup:

Friday

11 a.m. - ECHL Hockey Hall of Fame luncheon, Sheraton Anchorage Hotel*

6 p.m. - Sullivan Arena, Stockton Thunder at Alaska Aces

Saturday

Noon - Sullivan Arena

3:45-5:45 p.m. - Crossbar Bar & Grill, 2830 C St.

6 p.m. - Sullivan Arena, Stockton Thunder at Alaska Aces

ALASKA'S CUP CONNECTIONS

Engraved on the Stanley Cup are at least five Alaska connections, so here are some familiar names of Cup winners you can check out:

* Scott Gomez - Born and raised in Anchorage, won Cup with New Jersey Devils in 2000 and 2003.

* Scott Parker - Raised in Eagle River, won Cup with Colorado Avalanche in 2001.

* Mike Peluso - Former UAA defenseman, a member of the Seawolf Hall of Fame, won the Cup with the Devils in 1995.

* Jordan Hendry - Former UAF defenseman won Cup with Chicago Blackhawks in 2010.

* Shawn Chambers - Former UAF defenseman won Cup with Devils in 1995 and Dallas Stars in 1999.
