Alaska high school sports digest: Feb. 12

GIRLS Basketball

West 56, Chugiak 43

Chanel Bookert's game-high 24 points sparked the undefeated West girls basketball team to Wednesday night's 56-43 Cook Inlet Conference victory over visiting Chugiak.

Theyoung Puoy added eight points and six rebounds for the Eagles (16-0, 9-0 CIC), and Marshala Eddy contributed six points and eight rebounds.

Brandy Bookout led the Mustangs with 13 points.

Dimond 65, Bartlett 27

Dejha Canty led three Dimond scorers in double figures Wednesday night, when the Lynx girls cruised to a 65-27 CIC victory over visiting Bartlett.

Canty scored 16 points, and added nine rebounds, three assists and three steals in 20 minutes of playing time. Justine Anderson added 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, and Tara Thompson furnished 10 points, eight boards, four assists and three steals.

Kiera Stokes led Bartlett with 17 points, and added seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Noya Fiame collected seven rebounds for the Golden Bears.

East 46, Eagle River 30

Taria Page scored eight of her 14 points in the fourth quarter and East beat visiting Eagle River, 46-30, in a CIC girls game Wednesday night.

Vaa Pedro added eight points for the T-birds and Dajah Motuga delivered seven points and nine assists.

Lauren Frost led the Wolves with a game-high 15 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

West 52, Chugiak 44

Da'Zhon Wyche delivered 21 points Wednesday night to spearhead the West boys basketball team to a 52-44 Cook Inlet Conference victory over visiting Chugiak and keep the Eagles undefeated in conference at 9-0.

Don McMorris aided West with 11 points.

Matt Oldenkamp led the Mustangs with 16 points and Zion Burgess added 11.

Bartlett 52, Dimond 51

Bartlett won the battle of bad free-throw shooting Wednesday night and earned a 52-51 CIC boys basketball victory at Dimond.

The Golden Bears made nine of their 19 free throws and the Lynx went five of 12 from the line.

Kage Freelove paced the Golden Bears with a game-high 19 points and Marquis White recorded a double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds).

Muhamad Cole led Dimond with 18 points, three steals and two blocks. Zach Deloney added 12 points.

Bartlett's Tyler Boyer was the best free-throw shooter in the game, making four of six from the line.

East 68, Eagle River 50

Desmond Johnson did a lot of everything Wednesday night for the East boys basketball team to help the T-birds roll to a 68-50 CIC victory over visiting Eagle River.

Johnson scored a game-high 18 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and dished six assists.

Eric Andersen of Eagle River scored 13 points.

King Cove 66, Nikolaevsk 32

Jan Samuelson scored a game-high 20 points Wednesday, Ethan Mack added 18 and P.J. Hamilton 14 to lead the visiting King Cove boys basketball team to a 66-32 victory over Nikolaevsk.

Felemon Molodin and Jonah Fefelov each scored nine points for Nikolaevsk.
